On 5 March 2025 Jochem Marotzke gave a presentation on the 1.5-degree target within the series "Wissenschaft für jedermann" of te Deutsche Museum in Munich.
2024 was the first year in many millennia in which the global surface temperature was more than 1.5 degrees higher than in the pre-industrial period. The presentation focused on this turning point to examine the temperatures of recent years in the context of anthropogenic global warming. International climate policy, at least in its rhetoric, remains unchanged in the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement, resulting in a communication dilemma for scientists. A way out of this dilemma was presented.
The presentation (in German) was live stremed and is available here.
